Year 9 Future Makers – An Overview
Year 9 Future Makers is the exciting program operating at Rutherglen High School. During the year students have the opportunity to participate in a great many new activities that they may not have had the opportunity to undertake previously.
This year students will complete the following subjects:
- Future Makers BOOKLET
- Create
- English
- Maths
- Science-Humanities
- Get Active
- Sport
Some of the subjects you will be familiar with, others will be completely new to you. More information can be found in the handbook, but broadly each of these subjects involves:
- Future Makers - Students complete a number of projects, a community placement, a Health Project and a new skill.
- Create - Students experience a taste of the Arts and Technology subjects
- English - Students complete a number of tasks across the English strands- Speaking and Listening, Reading and Writing, A literacy class is offered to students who need extra literacy support.
- Maths - Students are grouped according to ability. The levels offered include: Extension Maths, Middle Maths and Apprenticeship Maths
- Science-Humanities - A combination of Science and Humanities. Students select from a number of Science and Humanities electives.
- Get Active - Students have the option of same sex or single sex Physical Education
In addition to the above learning areas, Year 9 students have the opportunity to forge links with the School and community via a range of activities.
Some of these opportunities include:
Health days, Animal Nursery at the Rutherglen Winery Walkabout Sunday markets, New Skills camps, producing a magazine, Steer Handling at the Royal Melbourne Show, The Great Victorian Bike Ride, Team building activities and assisting our sister school on Atauro Island (Timor-Leste).
The Year 9 Camp: Will be held at the end of Term 1. Students will spend 2 weeks at the Bogong Outdoor Education Centre where they will be involved in a range of team-building and adventure activities. During this time, students will undertake a 5-day hike through the Victorian High Country.
